Summer Coverage

Continuous year‐round coverage is available. If a student is participating in six or more credit hours of pre‐registered summer course work (by May 19, 2025), which assesses general/mandatory fees, the student is automatically enrolled in, and assessed a fee for the Plan. If a student received academic credit for at least nine hours & was insured in the spring, and will not enroll for sufficient summer hours to be assessed an insurance fee, the summer fee can be applied for through MYISU.

After Central Login, click on Student Center, then the NavBar (top right of page), then Menu, then ISU Extensions, and finally Student Health Insurance. If using a mobile device, after signing into MYISU & clicking on Student Center, click on the three dots on the top right of screen, then the Navbar, then Menu, then ISU Extensions, and finally Student Health Insurance. Summer 2025 coverage can be requested beginning the week of April 14, 2025 and through May 19, 2025.

Aetna Student Health

Aetna Navigator is a secure website where you can view your claim explanation of benefit statements along with the latest health information and news.  DURING ENROLLMENT PERIODS, AETNA WEBSITE DOES NOT HAVE UP TO DATE COVERAGE DATES FOR ILLINOIS STATE INSUREDS.

Beginning fall 2015, Aetna Student Health, the ISU Student Health Insurance plan, includes coverage for gender-affirming surgeries (see page 17 of policy brochure for coverage details).

Preferred Providers

While the Student Insurance Plan is an Open Choice PPO, students are encouraged to use preferred providers. Using medical providers who are in network with Aetna can reduce a student's out of pocket costs. However if your provider is out of network, don't worry benefits are still available. Choose Open Choice PPO under Student Health Medical Plans to find participating providers.

Vision Services

All ISU students who have the Student Health Insurance plan have a vision discount provision automatically included with the premium. Check out participating providers in the EyeMed Vision Care Network.
